Tyne Anglers Alliance

BWAC is affiliated to the Tyne Anglers Alliance (T.A.A.) and is a member of the Angling Trust. The T.A.A. is made up of clubs in the general area who have angling interests on the River Tyne, and also serves to give coarse anglers in the region a bigger say in matters affecting our sport. As a member of BWAC you can fish the following waters:-
1. Killingworth lakes
2. Newburn Leisure Park (north bank of River Tyne)
3. Ryton Willows (south bank of the River Tyne)
4. Throckley Reigh
5. Wydon Water, Hexham.

1. Killingworth Lakes:

Killingworth lakes are situated in Lakeside Park on either side of the main road into Killingworth Township (Southgate). All cars are to be parked in the designated car parks only. The areas where fishing is allowed are clearly indicated on the lakeside notice boards.

2. Newburn Leisure Park:

This fishery is on the north bank of the Tyne and stretches from Newburn to Ryton Island, which becomes apparent at low tide. This is a countryside leisure park and is in use by members of the general public and other water users. Car parking is restricted to designated car parks only. The North Side Boundary starting west from the slip way starts from the large white standing stone and continues until you come to two bollards in the path. The boundary on the eastern side of the slipway starts from the red boat speed limit sign until you reach the Leisure Centre fence. No fishing is allowed from the slipway or within 20 metres either side of it. The river fishing close season applies.

3. RytonWillows:

This fishery is situated on the south bank of the Tyne. The road which takes you down to the nearby level crossing is River Lane. Parking is available at the bottom of the lane. The railway crossing is controlled by red and green lights, please observe them. Once you have walked across the crossing follow the path to the right, past the Ferry House. You will come to a gate which is the start of the fishing boundary. With the river on your left walk along the pathway, passing through two gates you will come to the end of the fishing boundary is the gas pipes compound. To gain access to your chosen fishing spot you will need to get over or under the wires which mark the edge of the boundary. Do not cut or damage these wires. The river fishing close season applies.

4. Throckley Reigh:

This pond is situated half a mile noth of the Tyne and is open to T.A.A members only. The water contains a variety of coarse fish including, perch, roach, rudd, tench and bream. At the time of writing (Feb 2024) the Environment Agency has just stocked with further fish (400 roach, 100 bream and 100 tench). There is no parking at the Reigh itself, access is by parking at the end of Blayney Row. Walking to the right behind the houses a path will lead you to a ‘kissing’ gate (which prevents access with trolleys or barrows, so fish light!). Proceed along the right hand side of the field for approximately 10 minutes brings you to the pond on the left. Eight fishing pegs are on the path side of the Reigh, up from the notice board. There is no close season for this water.

5. Wydon Water (Hexham):

Hexham Angling Association is responsible for this 20 peg water, following its development by the Environment Agency and assisted by the T.A.A. Limited car parking is available (2 disabled bays and 5 other parking spaces), You will need to book your visit to this water in advance as there are only 6 complementary tickets available each day for T.A.A members.
